About the Glen Rock Travel Softball Program

The Glen Rock Travel Softball Program offers a more advanced and challenging program for girls looking to excel in softball.  As a supplement to the Glen Rock Softball Recreation Program, the goal of the travel program is to increase player skill development in a more competitive environment and prepare players for success at the Middle School and High School levels. Because of the increased competitiveness of travel softball, the program is intended for players who have a higher level of interest in the sport and are prepared to dedicate more time to practices and games.

The primary season for the Travel Softball Program is in the summer.  Generally, two to three games a week are played in the summer league, which runs from early June to the end of July.  Independent and tournament games may be played in the spring and fall, as preparation for the summer league. Coaches are encouraged to schedule spring and fall games as well as pre-season practices.

The following are eligibility guidelines based on birth date shall apply:

2019 Little League Softball Age Chart

17U Division – Eligible to Play High School Softball This Past Season

14U Division – 14 or Under as of January 1st

12U Division – 12 or Under as of January 1st

10U Division – 10 or Under as of January 1st

3rd/4th Grade Division – 10 or Under as of August 1st

The number of teams at each age level will be determined by the number of players at a qualified level of play, and availability of volunteer Managers / Coaches.  In order to fulfill team rosters, qualified players may be invited to play at an older level than their age eligibility would allow.

Player Expectations:

Since travel team competition tends to be stronger than recreation play, parents should note the following obligations before committing to join a travel team:

1.  The Glen Rock Travel Softball Program is designed as a supplement to the Recreation Program for softball. Any child who wishes to play travel softball must play in the town recreational league (except players in High School).

2.  Although it is expected that families will have other obligations and periodically take vacations, parents should consider that the season begins in late-May and can run through the end of July.  It is expected that any travel team player will attempt to make most, if not all, practices and/or games, and if she is unable to make a game or practice will provide advance notice to the coaches. Although coaches will independently determine how to distribute playing time, it is common practice that playing time is influenced by a player’s attendance at practices and games.

Team Selection (10U – 14U):

Players selected for travel teams are chosen via a tryout where the player’s skills are evaluated in the areas of hitting, fielding, and throwing. Tryouts will be conducted by a third-party evaluator with oversight by the Travel Softball Program.  A player’s maturity level, previous year’s performance, and commitment track record will also be considered when selecting teams.   Please refer to the GRBSA website for specific tryout times.
